Yay more logos. So before I told you about the importance of having good communication with your client. This is a key ingredient in the design relationship its just the first step in the logo process. I feel that if you keep this communication door open the rest will be a bit easier on yourself, as well as your client.
After you have the creative survey [see last logo post] and information about the logo from your client, you should make yourself a creative brief. Here you will summarize the company in great detail, as well and the project details. You should include information about the clients target market and how to market to them. Then include your project specifies the client wants and the schedule. Here is an example [note this is ugly but it does the job of showing the information.]
After I have the creative brief, I sketch. The most important part in the sketch is remembering that I can do anything. This is the time to let my mind wander and explore all possibilities. This is also the time to research logos and let me see what others are doing and not do that. I will try to have a few pages of sketches. Then I wait a day and repeat the process and resketch and clean up my ideas.
When sketching is done, its time to scan and do my linework. This I usually do in illustrator and clean up my work, and then do linework. I will pick usually two or three ideas that I think work best and line them. I then do a few different versions in different colors, as well as a black and white and a grayscale. That is my basic process. Have a good week.
